Artist Statement:  Omar is pouring tea. The Tuaregs are a nomadic ethnic group that lives throughout West Africa. For many years, they were traders and traditionally carried goods across the Sahara Desert on their camels. They wear indigo-dyed turbans that stain their skin slightly blue, which has given them the nickname “Blue Men.”Tuaregs are also known for drinking a mixture of green and mint tea with lots of sugar. They pour it by holding their hand very high in the air to create a sort of foam in the glass. This is done three times, using the same tea and filling the pot with more water and sugar each time. Tuaregs always have their tea sets with  them and it is a ritual throughout West Africa to drink tea in this manner.
