Statement: Vultures are our friends and play an indispensable role in our ecosystems, despite their reputation as omens of doom. They are highly social, living in large flocks and showing no aggression. The critically endangered Rüppell's Griffon Vulture, native to Africa’s Sahel region, faces threats from poisoning by poachers and farmers. It holds the record as the highest-flying bird, soaring to over 37,000 feet, often staying aloft for more than seven hours a day. Thank you to Tim Stäter who allows me to use his photo as inspiration.
