The Weaver
The Weaver
Kofi is weaving beautiful cloth. There is a long and lively tradition of cloth weaving in West Africa. Women traditionally spin the cotton into thread while men weave the cloth. The cloth is woven into long strips on a homemade loom. The strips are then sewn together to make bed covers, blankets to hang as room dividers, and clothes to wear. Many of the different types of woven cloths are highly prized by the families. They are used in ceremonies, given as wedding gifts, and passed down from one generation to another. Most cloth is woven with cotton, but certain ethnic groups also weave cloth from sheep or camel wool.
