“Understanding Threads - Year #7” in person class
The Masters Art Series will be held at the G’s Quilt & Craft Retreat, 710 Miller Road, Hillsborough, NC 27278, USA. This is a nice house set in the beautiful country area outside of Hillsborough. It is only five minutes from my house, so you are all invited to come to my house/studio one evening for a relaxing dinner.
Please find below more information about the logistics.
Class Info
The “Understanding Threads” class is a five day class. We will be talking about what we will be doing and the supply list in our pre-class Zoom meeting.
Schedule
The class starts at 8:30AM on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, and ends at 4:00 PM on Sunday September 20, 2026. We will have 1-2 lessons/day with critiques each morning to go over the homework from each lesson. We will also have an afternoon critique. The critiques are essential because that is where you learn the most.
The third day we will have an optional afternoon off to visit several local artists’ studios.
The travel date to arrive is Tuesday, September 15, 2026
You can come to the venue from 2:00 PM on Tuesday September 15th to set up. We will have dinner at 5:30 PM and then a meeting at 6:00 PM at the venue Tuesday, September 15.
You will be spending five nights for the class (September 15 to 19). The night of Sunday, September 20, 2026 is not reserved at the venue and is not included in the cost. I recommend that you schedule to stay another night elsewhere if you are traveling a distance.
Please do not schedule to leave before 4:00pm on the last day (Sunday September 20th).
Meals
The first evening we will have a soup & salad meal that we will provide at the venue at 5:30 before our meeting. You are also invited to our house one evening to visit my studio, have a home cooked meal, and a relaxing evening.
We will provide coffee, tea, and snacks each day during the class. You are welcome to bring any snacks for yourself or to share. There is a full kitchen at the venue so the people staying there can prepare breakfasts or other meals. Everyone can share the fridge and warm up food.
Lunches: We will choose a restaurant to order from each day as a group (this is optional and we will have menus available to choose from). Reynald will be available to call the order in, pick it up, and deliver it to the venue.
Dinners: You are on your own for the remaining three evening meals. There are many restaurants to choose from in the area at all price ranges. We will have recommendations and menus from different places available for you to look through.
Accommodations
There are four bedrooms at the retreat center. In order to rent the retreat center for the class, we must also fill the bedrooms because we are being charged for them, and we need to have at least seven people staying in the bedrooms to cover the cost.
Unfortunately, the venue organizer has a weird way of setting the prices for the rooms at the retreat center. The more people who stay there, the cheaper it is. If less people stay there, the cost goes up for everyone. In the past we have had reservation changes at the last minute and, because we didn’t want to charge more, we have lost money. Honestly, we can’t continue to do that. We don’t want to make money on the accommodations, but we cannot lose money either. But what is absolute is that the price at the retreat center is cheaper than a hotel if we have at least seven people staying there.
I’m explaining all of this because we can give a fixed price for the class ($625) but we must wait until we are sure there will be no more changes in the bedroom reservations to give the final price.
Last year the price for a double was $65/night and for a single, it was $100/night.
If everything stays as it is right now, a double would cost $90/night and a single would cost $125/night. If we can fill the two spots in the two double rooms, the prices will be the same as last year.
There have been a number of changes again this year so here is the situation. We have two spaces left in 2 double rooms.
Joan and Gloria - sharing a room
Gabrielle - single room
Nancy and ? - sharing a room or in a single
Diane and ? - sharing a room or in a single
For students not staying at the retreat house, there is the Holiday Inn Express in Hillsborough that is reasonable and about 10 minutes away. Each room has a mini refrigerator, microwave, and a coffee machine. Breakfast is included. Click here for more information. There are also lots of Airbnbs in the area.
Cost
The total cost per student for the class is $625. Students staying at the venue will have the additional cost of the bedroom.
The $625 covers the 5-day class, use of classroom, use of the kitchen and bathrooms at the venue, two dinners, coffee, tea, & snacks, and all taxes.

Cancellation policy
We have grappled with the cancellation policy for the Masters Art Series for many years. Unfortunately, because of the financial commitments and complicated logistics, we cannot offer refunds for any reason. We highly recommend that you obtain trip/travel/event insurance and choose a plan that offers the best options. Many plans will provide a full refund. We understand that students cannot control what could happen in life. If the class would be cancelled for any reason, you would be given a full refund, including the deposit.
Travel
Hillsborough is approximately 30 minutes from Raleigh-Durham International airport. If you are flying, we will do what we can to coordinate shared rides.
