Adjua is selling textiles in her stall in the market. The African print fabrics are always sold in two-yard pieces, of which a woman will usually buy three at a time. One of the pieces will be used to make her a top,  one piece will be worn around her waist as a skirt, and the third piece will be folded in half lengthwise and used as a second cloth to wear around her waist if she is married. Once the woman has a baby, the third cloth will be used to carry her baby on her back. The famous “Snugli” baby carrier was created by a Peace Corps volunteer in Togo, West Africa, in 1968. She was struck
by how peaceful the babies seemed because  they were constantly carried on  their mothers’ backs  wrapped in the beautiful cloth.
